Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez and Garth Brooks were among popular American entertainers who graced the presidential inauguration. While Lady Gaga sang ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’, Jennifer Lopez performed ‘This Land is Your Land’ and country singer Garth Brooks delivered a rendition of ‘Amazing Grace’.

America’s first National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman also addressed the gathering. “We are striving to form a union with purpose,” Amanda Gorman said, adding, “While we have our eyes on the future, history has its eyes on us.”

The presidential parade from the US Capitol to the White House through Pennsylvania Avenue and the National Mall in Washington, DC, was cancelled owing to security concerns. Instead, a televised event described as a virtual ‘Parade Across America’ will be held once Biden enters the White House.

This ‘Parade Across America’ will feature performances by communities from across the US.

In addition, actor Tom Hanks is scheduled to host a prime-time programme later in the day. Starting with remarks from US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, this programme will feature musical performances by artists including John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Bruce Springsteen, Demi Lovato, Kerry Washington and Eva Longoria among others.

Joe Biden has assumed office as the 46th president of The United States of America while Kamala Harris was sworn-in as the first female, first Black and first South Asian-American Vice President of the US in a historic inauguration on Wednesday. The inaugural ceremonies were held on the West Front of the US Capitol complex in Washington, DC, that was stormed by Trump supporters less than a month ago.
