Beijing ‘hardly likely’ to suffer for Russia – Putin’s solidarity with China cracking

Putin leveled the blame at foreign forces attempting to overturn the Kazakh regime in a virtual conference of the CSTO this week.

He said Russian paratroopers had worked to “prevent the undermining of the foundations of the state, the complete degradation of the internal situation in Kazakhstan, and block terrorists, criminals, looters and other criminal elements”.

It echoed the words of the Kazakh president, who gave “special thanks” to Vladimir Putin for sending the forces, and thoroughly dismissed the idea of negotiating with protestors.

He asked: “What kind of talks can we hold with criminal and murderers?”
