Teresa Giudice‘s casting tape has been revealed, but does she regret joining The Real Housewives of New Jersey all those years ago?
Before Teresa and her ex-husband, Joe Giudice, were catapulted into fame, they were just a normal, suburban, Jersey family. And in Teresa’s never-before-seen casting tape, it’s clear just how much she and Joe have changed.
Teresa sat down with Andy Cohen for his new limited series, For Real: The Story of Reality TV, and Andy surprised the mother-of-four with the tape she submitted to producers back when fame was just an unlikely dream for the reality star.
In the casting tape, while sitting outside of her mansion – which was still under construction at the time – Teresa says with a huge smile on her face, “I always get what I want, which I love. Always, always, always, always”
It then cuts to Joe who gushes over his then-wife, stating, “I can’t complain. She cooks. She spends a lot of money, but besides that she’s alright,” he teases.
Then, several of Teresa’s future co-stars make an appearance to dote over the 36-year-old Teresa.
“Oh, Teresa. I’ve known Teresa for 20 years,” Dolores Catania says. “She says things and you can’t even get offended. You just have to be like, ‘Okay, I know you didn’t mean that.’”
“She doesn’t have a bad bone in her body,” Dina Manzo declares. “I guess she’s the most Jersey of everybody.”
Fortunately, Teresa is still very close with Dolores and Dina, but the same can’t be said about Jacqueline Laurita, who’s also in the tape.
“When she doesn’t know she’s being funny, she says funny things sometimes,” Jacqueline says with a smile.
The producers obviously loved the tape and Teresa quickly became a fan favorite, but as fans know, the show wasn’t also a positive experience for Teresa and Joe as their legal issues began to surface in season two. Eventually, the former couple was charged with bankruptcy fraud, and they both served time in prison before Joe was ultimately deported back to Italy.
During a 2019 appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Joe told Andy that he wishes Teresa would have never submitted the casting tape because life was better before the show.
“I wish I never would have done it,” Joe said according to Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “I had a great life before. The show actually just brought a lot of attention to us. Just having a house like that alone just brings a lot of attention. I never had so many damn lawsuits in my life until after I got on that show.”
Meanwhile, in 2011, Teresa also explained that she has her own regrets about joining RHONJ.
“Having issues with my family blow up even bigger because we’re on TV together is kind of a nightmare,” she told Bravo. “It’s not fun for me. I can’t pretend it is. I’m not gonna sit there and be all smiley and happy that I’m on a talk show when I feel like crying. I’d rather never have been on TV and have a happy family than go through any of this. And it’s hard to sit next to people who obviously don’t feel the same way and are loving every minute of it…”
The Real Housewives of New Jersey airs Wednesday nights on Bravo at 9/8c.
