New York could be first US travel corridor link for Britons says Virgin boss

The US currently has 2,517,344 active cases of COVID-19.

In New York alone there are 62,870 active cases according to Worldometers.

Meanwhile, in the UK there have been 59.3 cases per 100,000 of the population in the last 14-days according to the European Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.

The total number of active cases in the UK is not disclosed.

Following the announcement of a recapitalisation plan and subsequent restructuring, Shai Weis, CEO of Virgin Atlantic, called for passenger testing in order to get flights back up and running.

He described the airline’s recent changes as a “fight for survival”, but states the airline can not maximise its full potential without “the introduction of passenger testing”.

Virgin bosses believe “the opening of US borders and removal of quarantine is imperative to recovery”.

In a statement, the airline adds: “The airline is calling for both UK and US governments to introduce robust passenger testing regimes to lift travel restrictions whilst protecting public health.”
