Vivo patents a smartphone with a drone inside – Eagles Vine

BBK-owned consumer technology brand Vivo has reportedly filed a patent for a smartphone that will house a flying camera. The report suggests Vivo is the first OEM that aims to house a drone camera in the handset itself.
This was reported by Lets Go Digital who spotted that this patent was filed in December 2020 for Vivo Mobile Communication with the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) and was only released now.
According to the report, Vivo plans to house an extra compartment in the smartphone to house a hidden camera system that contains two camera sensors, three infrared proximity sensors, four propellers and an extra battery.
The patent apparently mentions that one camera will be located at the top and the other camera will be placed at the front. Therefore, by positioning the cameras in different places, the user retains the possibility to shoot from different angles. There would also be an option to add a third and fourth camera too.
The report describes that the camera system in the patent shows that it can slid out of the housing and is completely removable together with the mounting bracket. The mounting bracket is said to integrate a fingerprint sensor.
The camera system is said to be able to fly by making use of the integrated propellers. The infrared sensors are said to be able to keep track of the distance from other objects to avoid collisions during flight.
The report also states that the flight camera is able to change position to maintain more flexibility while shooting. The operation is likely to come with support for air gestures through smartphones but the patent doesn’t mention any detail on this front.
