The Sony WH-1000MX4s remain some of the very best wireless headphones money can buy and fans of these cans now have a new colour to choose from. Sony has announced the release of its updated Silent White edition which, as the name suggests, offers these popular cans in a bright white colour scheme for the very first time.
It might seem like a small design tweak, but don’t be fooled as Sony says that, unlike the standard black and silver options, this new Silent White model boasts an additional coat of paint to ensure these headphones are more stain-resistant and less susceptible to scratches and damage when shoved into your rucksack.
They also feature a plush “pearlescent finish” to the topcoat, which Sony says will make this new tweaked pair of WH-1000MX4s feel a little more luxurious than the standard cans.
Along with the headphones getting a white makeover, all of the accessories including the case and cables also get this colour treatment so that everything matches.
Apart from the new look, all of the other great features found on WH-1000MX4 remain identical to the standard cans. That means the Silent White edition get the same great noise cancelling technology which blocks out almost all background audio when strapped to your ears.

There’s also the ‘Speak-to-Chat’ function which stops the music playing the moment you begin speaking and Adaptive Sound Control senses where you are and what you’re doing, then adjusts ambient sound settings for the ideal listening experience.
Owners are also treated to 30-hour battery life, clever folding design and easy access to the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.
That’s all great – and you can read our Sony WH-1000MX4 headphone review to find out what we really think of all these clever new features – but it’s worth noting there is a downside to picking up the new Silent White edition of these headphones over the previous models.
That’s because Sony has ramped up the price of the headphones when you buy the Silent White edition compared to the Black and Silver pairs.
Right now on Amazon, you can pick up the standard WH1000-MX4s for around £280. However, if you fancy treating yourself to this new model you’ll need to stump up £400 – making them £120 more expensive.
We’re not exactly sure how much it’s costing Sony to add the new “plush pearlescent finish” with this lick of paint, but that seems pretty steep. Still, if that price tag hasn’t put you off, you’ll be able to buy the brand-new Silent White Edition Sony WH1000-MX4 headphones next month.
