NEW DELHI: Smartphone maker Asus is all set to launch its next-generation gaming smartphone. The company has confirmed that it will launch the ROG Phone 5 on March 10. The new ROG smartphone will succeed the ROG Phone 3. Last year the company launched the ROG Phone 3 in India along with the global launch, but this year it has not revealed the India launch details.
Asus will launch the ROG Phone 5 on March 10 7PM Taipei time which translates to 4.30PM IST.
The ROG Phone 5 recently received TENAA certification. The smartphone comes with model number ASUS_Ioo5DA and the listing reveals dot matrix “Aura Lighting” on the back which shows the ROG logo. The TENNA listing also reveals that the Asus ROG Phone 5 will come with a 6.78-inch OLED full HD+ display with 144Hz refresh rate.
The smartphone is expected to be backed by a 6,000 mAh battery with 65W fast charging support. It is said to run Android 11 out-of-the-box and powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset. The gaming smartphone is said to pack 12GB of RAM and a 64MP triple-rear camera setup.
Recently, Asus confirmed that its first gaming smartphone — ROG Phone–will not receive the Android 10 update. The company confirmed this on the Asus ZenTalk community forum. Asus ROG Phone was launched in the year 2018 and it came with Android 8 Oreo operating system. The company rolled out Android 9.0 Pie update for the smartphone in 2019.
It was the first gaming smartphone of the company and after that, the company has launched Asus ROG Phone II and ROG Phone 3.
