iphone: YouTube Premium users on iPhone get a new way to watch videos – Eagles Vine

If you are an iPhone user and have a YouTube Premium subscription, you can now watch a video in picture-in-picture (PiP) mode on the iOS YouTube app, as per a report by 9To5 Google. The feature has been rolled out by Google but it may take some time to reach subscribers everywhere. It is an experimental feature for now which means you would have to go to the app and manually activate it. The picture-in-picture mode can then be used to view the video content over the other apps that you open on the screen.
To check whether you can access the feature and to access it, of course, log in to your Google account and then head over to From there, you have to navigate to the “Picture-in-picture on iOS” experiment. Tap on the option of “Try it out” which will activate the feature for your Premium account. To use it, open your YouTube app and play the video you want to watch. Now, when you swipe up or press the home button, the app will close and the video will play inside a mini screen which is the PiP mode. As per YouTube, the video in PiP mode will pause if you lock the screen. However, the lock screen controls still enable you to play the content as you like.
The PiP feature for Premium members who use an iPhone was announced by YouTube earlier this year and after some hiccups, looks to be finally on track, even if it is an experimental one for now. As the PiP mode is an experimental one, it is for a limited time and will continue only until October 31, 2021. One thing to note is that the feature has only been rolled out on iOS which means you will not be able to access it on the iPad.
