2021 may be the year of foldable smartphones, here’s why – Eagles Vine

There are only a handful of OEMs that are currently offering a device when it comes to foldable smartphones, but it appears that by time next year, that may have changed.
According to a tweet by Ross Young, founder and CEO of Display Search and DSCC (Display Supply Chain Consultants), we may see four new players — Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and even Google — in the foldable smartphone market
Besides mentioning new players in the market, Young also says that Samsung is also going to launch at least three models and one of which is going to be Galaxy Z Flip Lite. In the same tweet, he also suggests that there may not be a Galaxy Z Fold Lite from the South Korean tech giant.

All the four companies that Young tipped in his tweet have been rumoured to be working on foldable smartphones since a while now.
Starting with Google, a report by 9to5Google from back in August claimed that the first Pixel foldable — codenamed passport — was spotted in an internal document and is touted to be launched in 2021. Xiaomi has been rumoured to be working on a clamshell foldable phone, according to a report by ZDNet Korea, for which the Chinese smartphone brand is said to have placed an order with Samsung Display.
Vivo’s sub-brand iQoo was last year claimed to be gearing up to launch its first foldable phone too as alleged photos of the devices appeared on Weibo, the Chinese microblogging website. Oppo is the only company that has so far already shown its prototypes showing a Huawei Mate X-like design.
