The England bowling attack dominated Sri Lanka in the first session of the first Test at Galle on Day 1 on Thursday. Young England spinner Dom Bess troubled the Sri Lankan batsmen on a turning track as he claimed his second 5-wicket haul in Tests.
Meanwhile, England seamer Stuart Broad took 3 early wickets as Sri Lanka were struggling at 81/5 and Jack Leach’s lone wicket and a run out helped England bowl out Sri Lanka for their lowest total (135) at Galle.

Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal was the highest scorer with just 28 runs on the board for his team. He was also involved in a crucial 56-run partnership with veteran Angelo Mathews that got Sri Lanka out of trouble after being reduced to 25/3 in the 11th over.
Dominic Bess also became the first England bowler to take 5 wickets on the first day of a Test match in Sri Lanka. This young spinner made his Test debut on 24th May, 2018 against Pakistan.
Bess’s maiden 5-wicket haul came against South Africa where he bowled a 23-over spell last year. Just a year later he has claimed his 2nd Test five-for against Sri Lanka in the ongoing Test series in Galle.
Sri Lanka had a poor start with the bat and it will be fascinating to see if they can do well with the ball to bring down the strong England batting line up or will the visitors dominate the hosts with the bat as well.
