Delhi Capitals dealt with another blow on Wednesday after team’s South Africa pacer Anrich Nortje tested positive for Covid-19. Nortje entered the hotel quarantine with a negative result but returned a positive result in his 2nd Covid-19 test.
Earlier, Delhi Capitals’ left-arm spinner Axar Patel also tested positive for coronavirus during his hotel quarantine. Anrich Nortje was one among the IPL-bound players who arrived, from South Africa, last week. These IPL-bound players were a part of South Africa’s ODI squad for the home series against Pakistan.
South African pace duo Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje arrived in Mumbai last Tuesday (April 6) and joined the Delhi Capitals’ team hotel. However, they missed participating in DC’s IPL 2021 opening fixture against the Chennai Super Kings due to the mandatory seven-day quarantine period.
Rishabh Pant, who replaced injured Shreyas Iyer as captain ahead of the season, led Delhi Capitals to a win against MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings in the opener on Saturday (April 10). Chris Woakes and uncapped Avesh Khan produced impressive performances, claiming two wickets each, against CSK. However, Nortje’s further absence could hurt the momentum of the Delhi side.
