IPL 2021 Auction: Umesh Yadav returns to Delhi Capitals after 7 years, bought for Rs 1 crore

Experienced India pacer Umesh Yadav was bought by Delhi Capitals at his base price of Rs 1 in the IPL 2021 auction on Thursday. The 33-year-old was released by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) after spending three years at the Virat Kohli-led franchise.

Notably, the 33-year-old had started his IPL career with the same franchise.

Overall, Umesh Yadav has been part of Delhi Capitals (Delhi Daredevils then), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and RCB in the cash-rich T20 tournament. He made his debut against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2010.

In his 121 IPL matches, Umesh Yadav has scalped 119 wickets at the economy of 8.51 and average of 30.08.

The Vidarbha cricketer has been out of action ever since suffering a calf injury during the Boxing Day Test against Australia. On Wednesday, BCCI said that Umesh will replace Shardul Thakur for the last 2 Test matches against England in England but only after assessment of his fitness Test.

Earlier in the auction, Delhi Capitals also grabbed the services of Australian batting heavyweight Steve Smith for 2.20 crore.
