Originally scheduled to begin on March 29 this year, the pandemic made the fans, players, franchises and organisers wait for almost six months. But the opening ball is now set to be bowled when the defending champions Mumbai Indians take on three time champions Chennai Super Kings at Abu Dhabi in the inaugural fixture of the September 19 to November 10 tournament. Dubai and Sharjah are the other two venues.
IPL 2020: FULL LEAGUE-STAGE SCHEDULE
Postponement of the T20 World Cup which was scheduled to be held in Australia this year helped the IPL in getting a window to host the season overseas, after which the eight franchises went into separate biosecure bubbles in the UAE and will remain in them for the next 53 days of the competition, when action takes place in front of empty stands at least to begin with at the three venues. Fans may be allowed during later stages of the tournament.
