India batsman KL Rahul repaid the faith of team management as he got over his T20I lean patch with a 39-ball fifty to propel the hosts to a competitive total against England in the opening ODI of 3-match series on Tuesday.

KL Rahul endured a forgettable five-match T20I series. Rahul managed to register two ducks and scores of 1 and 14 in his first four outings before being eventually dropped for the series-decider. Rahul arrived at the crease after the dismissal of Shreyas Iyer and took his time to settle down while starting cautiously.

Indian team has continued to persist with Rahul in the ODI format where he is continuing his middle-order order besides donning the wicketkeeping gloves.

Rahul and Krunal Pandya added 100-plus runs for the sixth wicket to help India post 317 for 5. Pandya got to his fifty in just 26 balls as he provided the late impetus to India in the first ODI of the ongoing 3-match series against England in Pune.
