Delayed by Covid, Delhi to host state shooting championships from Feb 5 | More sports News – Eagles Vine

NEW DELHI: The Covid-19 pandemic had brought sports to a halt through most of 2020. But things started moving at the turn of the year, and now the wheels are being set in motion for domestic events as well.
Tiding over the Covid-19 crisis, the Delhi State Rifle Association (DSRA) has announced the dates for its 2020 state championships that were forced to be carried forward to this year. The tournament begins February 5 and has been divided into three parts at three different locations. However, due to extraordinary circumstances and to ensure the year doesn’t go waste for new shooters, the tournament has been restricted to NR (National Rule) category only.
NR shooters are those who haven’t played at any National Championships before. Shooters who have taken part in the nationals even once before are categorised as ISSF shooters.
“We wish to inform you that due to the unfortunate Covid-19 pandemic, the 36th Delhi State Shooting Championships will be held only for NR category matches with a view to afford an opportunity to beginner-level shooters to qualify for participating in the upcoming North Zone / All India GV Mavalankar competition,” the DSRA said in its circular.
The unavailability of Dr Karni Singh Shooting Ranges in Delhi has forced the state federation to host the tournament at separate venues for air pistol/rifle, shotgun and 25m/50m events
The air pistol/rifle matches will be conducted from Feb 5 to 12 at Deep Memorial Public School in Ghaziabad. The shotgun events will begin on the same date at the Manav Rachna Shooting Ranges and conclude on Feb 8.
The 25m/50m Pistol & Rifle matches will be held from Feb 14 to 19 at the Jaspal Rana Shooting Ranges in Dehradun.
Forms will be submitted in online format only on the NRAI website. The last date for submission of entries is February 1.
Shooters achieving the minimum qualification score in different age categories (sub-youth, youth, junior, senior, veteran) will qualify for the pre-nationals, i.e., GV Mavalankar Shooting Competition or North Zone Shooting Championships, whichever is conducted by the NRAI at a later date.
