Canelo Alvarez, Caleb Plant in bloody press conference altercation

Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant gave fans a preview of their upcoming fight at a Tuesday press conference.

The two fighters threw punches at each other at the conference during a staredown ahead of their supper middleweight title fight on Nov. 6.

Alvarez threw the first shot by pushing Plant away from him. Plant then walked back up and swung at Alvarez’s face, but missed. Alvarez got one shot in on Plant’s face, and after a few more quick jabs by each fighter before security intervened and separated them.

“He started talking a lot of things,” Alvarez said. “I answered. Then the bad thing he said, ‘You motherf—er.’ You can say whatever you want to me, but not to my mother. My mother is not here.”

Plant said that he doesn’t believe his comment should have elicited a physical response from Alvarez.

“Wasn’t he saying that?” Plant said. “But now, all of a sudden, those words mean something completely different? … Now, all of a sudden, I’m talking about his mama? C’mon man. That don’t even make no sense.”

Alvarez left Plant with a cut under his eye, while Alvarez was bleeding from a cut on his forearm.

Plant’s manager, Luis DeCubas Jr., said the cut under his client’s eye was because his glasses scratched his face during the altercation and not tied to a direct blow from Alvarez. Plant is still scheduled to do a sparring match later this week.

Plant also wanted to make sure his followers know that he landed his shot on Alvarez during the conference, as he posted multiple photos on Instagram of his hand hitting Alvarez’s face in a slapping motion.

“I don’t care what he brings to the ring. I’m focused on what I bring to the ring. The difference is I’m a better fighter, that’s the difference. On November 6th, if you want to see the details, tune in and see the fireworks,” Plant said of Alvarez. “My goal today was not to let him know I’m going to win.”
