It’s obvious that no one is perfect, so why should celebrities be held at a different standard? Every now and then they slip up, and because of social media, it’s usually caught on camera! Today we are discussing 10 embarrassing moments celebs were caught lip synching on stage!
1. Mariah Carey
It’s not the first time Mariah Carey has lip synced live on stage, but it may be the most remembered. During a New Year’s Eve performance of her 1991 hit “Emotions” Carey had some technical difficulties. The singer claimed that she didn’t do a sound check of the song, which is why she was struggling. She didn’t even try to sing over the tracks, as she walked back and forth on stage talking and pointing the microphone to the audience. The whole situation was painful to watch, and just like that, Mariah Carey became 2007’s first big joke.
2. Iggy Azalea
Iggy Azalea has seemed to take a break from the music industry, and this performance could be the reason why. While on stage with JLo singing their hit “Actin like That” the rapper ran into some technical difficulties. Azalea later admitted that her mic wasn’t turned on, yet fans could still hear her voice coming from the speakers. There were even moments when she was dancing on stage to her own voice rapping in the background.
3. Ashlee Simpson
It would be a crime to talk about lip-syncing controversies and not mention Ashlee Simpson’s infamous SNL melt down. The younger sister of Jessica Simpson completely bombed a performance while appearing on Saturday Night Live. The singer was getting ready to sing her second song when the track in the background played a song that she had already sang. Simpson was speechless, but decided it would be better to dance around on stage in hopes everyone would be too distracted and not notice the incident. To rub salt in the wound, her career never really recovered after the whole fiasco.
4. Justin Bieber
To be fair, Justin Bieber has to dance and sing at the same time, which can quickly tire out even the best of entertainers. But, to add insult to injury, not only did his fans realize he was lip-syncing during a 2012 concert, but Justin also threw up on stage. It’s already embarrassing enough to puke on stage, but to do it in front of thousands of screaming fans while your voice is still singing in the background must have been a total nightmare! Not sure how he explained that one to fans, but we are sure his “Beliebers” forgave him!
5. Britney Spears
No one has ever claimed Britney Spears has the most amazing voice, so it isn’t a surprise that she would need to lip-sync. When Spears performed at 2016’s Billboard Music Awards, it didn’t take long for Twitter users to call the singer out. Though her performance was great, people claimed she was obviously lip-syncing the whole time. Considering she was running around on stage the whole time, you couldn’t even hear her breathing hard, which means her microphone was most likely turned off completely.
6. Selena Gomez
It seems like no star is safe from lip-synching scandals. So, when fans saw Selena Gomez lip sync her way through 2013 Jingle Ball concert performance, they were stunned. The singer had issues right from the beginning of her performance. But, fans could clearly see Gomez’s microphone in her hand by her side while her voice would still blaring through the speakers. She was quick to lift the mic again, but the damage had been done, and the truth of her lip-syncing was revealed!
Considering Beyonce admitted to lip-synching one of the most important performances of her life, singing for the president, fans shouldn’t be surprised when she lip-synchs at a concert. During a concert in Paris, the singer was caught on camera lip-syncing on stage. While she was reaching out to audience members with both arms, her voice was singing through the speakers. The problem was, her microphone was clearly away from her face, which means Queen B was singing over a pre-recorded track! Like a true Stars, he got up and continued to show as if nothing had happened!
8. Katy Perry
Considering what came out of her mouth after Katy Perry was caught lip-synching at the French Music Awards Show “NRJ”, she should have just stuck to pre-recorded track. The star was 45 seconds into her performance, when the host thought it would be best for her to start all over. According to the host, the show had some technical issues, which threw off Perry, as well as her background dancers who were all performing to a different track than what the audience was hearing. The singer then started her set over, and to everyone’s disappointment, it sounded awful!
9. Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez has been crushing the music industry since the 90’s and has managed to have minimal controversies. But, while performing at 2011’s Wango Tango in LA the singer ran into some serious issues. Lopez was in the middle of singing her hit “On The Floor” when all her sound suddenly went out. Not only did fans see she wasn’t actually singing, but it was also obvious the band wasn’t really playing. In attempts to keep the show going, Lopez jumped around on stage as her drummer started playing and the audience sang!
10. Ashley Tisdale
Considering performers of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade are required to lip-sync, Ashley Tisdale shouldn’t have gotten flack for doing so in 2007. But, that didn’t stop critics from scolding the ex-Disney star for doing so. During the parade, Tisdale was singing her hit version of “Last Christmas”, but the problem was she did a poor job pretending to sing. If she would have stepped up her performance, she probably could have tricked people into believing it was actually her voice singing through the speakers!
