Sanjay Leela Bhansali bags Rs 35 crore deal for the first season of ‘Heeramandi’? Truth behind rumours revealed – Eagles Vine

It was reported on Friday that Bollywood director Sanjay Leela Bhansali bagged a huge deal for his next venture ‘Heeramandi’. However, ETimes has learnt that the reports that went viral, were far from the truth.

A source said in a statement to ETimes, “Contrary to the reports in the media about Netflix allegedly paying Sanjay Leela Bhansali a certain amount of money for Heeramandi are completely baseless. No such discussion has taken place at all and these stories must be fact-checked.”

According to the reports doing the rounds, the director, who is known for his big-ticket Bollywood films, bagged a deal with the OTT streaming giant that will explore stories of courtesans during pre-independent India. The series that is said to be about love, betrayal and politics, is rumoured to be set in Bhansali’s larger-than-life sets, used for the film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ that features Alia Bhatt in the lead.

It was reported that the OTT giant had agreed to shell out the big bucks just the first season of the upcoming web series.

While the news has been denied, the streaming giant is known to shell out big money for its projects. Their most expensive one yet is the USD 200 million film ‘The Gray Man’, directed by the Russo Brothers that will feature Indian star Dhanush alongside an ensemble cast of Chris Evans, Ryan Gosling and Ana de Armas.
