Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker’s finger-sucking, explained

Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker are bringing a whole new meaning to the phrase “getting handsy.”

The PDA-prone couple has thrown COVID caution to the wind, showcasing a cringe-worthy habit of sucking each other’s fingers in public.

In March, fans thought they spotted Barker with Kardashian’s hand in his mouth at a UFC fight. This week, Barker posted on Instagram in honor of Kardashian’s 42nd birthday, and included a raunchy video of her going down on his thumb.

To quote Kris Jenner, this is a case for the FBI: Unlike the sucking of other body parts, it isn’t clear what sexual pleasure, if any, Barker and Kardashian are getting from the act.

Is it a kink? A digital form of exhibitionism? A way to troll the paparazzi?

“It could be a kink,” an unconventional sexual behavior that someone enjoys, erotic educator Taylor Sparks told The Post. Because the happy couple posted a video of the act, “that, for me, leans a little bit toward exhibitionism, having a little bit of sexual gratification that people are seeing this happen,” Sparks said. Either way, “it’s quite normal.”

Neither Barker nor Kardashian returned The Post’s request for comment.

But fans are salivating for more details, especially after Kardashian shared an article about “rough sex” written by staffers of her lifestyle website Poosh. “It’s not for everyone, but we’re fans and wanted to investigate the kinky bedroom preference,” the post read.

Psychotherapist and sex therapist Dulcinea Pitagora, Ph.D., declined to speculate what the act means for the duo. But for many, finger-sucking comes down to the pure pleasure of it all, Pitagora said.

“Fingers have an inherent connection with sensuality and arousal,” Pitagora said, “given their high density of nerve endings, and how they’re very often used during sex.”

Some people have cheirophilia, a hand fetish, meaning that they “have to” interact with them to achieve sexual arousal, Sparks said. However, it’s “lower on the totem pole,” compared to more popular fetish targets, such as feet.

Mouths are “inherently sensual and sexual in a similar way,” said Pitagora. “Since we’re talking about fingers in mouths, it’s not hard to see how that combination could be a huge turn-on for some people.”

There’s also the sheer visual.

“Putting fingers in mouths also makes many people think of oral sex, so sucking on fingers in public is a way to evoke the imagery of oral sex in public, without actually engaging in it,” the therapist explained.

Sparks agreed. “It is a form of oral pleasure,” she said.

Pitagora believes the pandemic may have added a taboo appeal to finger sucking. In the before times, a big display of public slobbering could be seen as normal behavior — now, we’re talking about deadly droplets.

Because their faces are exposed, “the people involved aren’t concerned about sharing droplets, and the finger sucker is also not concerned about sharing whatever happens to be on the suckee’s fingers,” Pitagora said. “You can see how during a pandemic, this kind of PDA could carry an extra charge, which might be extra arousing for Kardashian and Barker.”

But because we’re not in the bedroom with them, “all this is subjective,” said Sparks. “It’s really about what turns them on as a couple.”
