Gemma Atkinson suffers family issue with Gorka Marquez over Christmas: ‘We didn’t make it’

Gemma Atkinson, 36, has reflected on her “different” Christmas with boyfriend Gorka Marquez, 30, and their one-year-old daughter Mia in an Instagram post. It comes after the former Emmerdale actress and her Strictly Come Dancing professional beau reunited following the grand final of the BBC show, in which he was a runner-up with partner Maisie Smith.

Gemma and Gorka were forced to spend time apart while he competed in Strictly due to the programme’s support bubbles amid the coronavirus pandemic, which meant that one half of a dance partnership lived alone, while the other could remain with their household.

Sadly, the pair were dealt another blow due to lockdown rules and travel restrictions over the festive period, as they were unable to visit Gorka’s family in Spain as planned.

Fortunately, Gemma chose to see the positive side of the situation, as her family are healthy and they could speak to relatives they were missing on FaceTime.

They were also able to see Gemma’s family on Christmas Day, as the couple live in Manchester, which is a tier 3 area – where people were allowed to form a Christmas bubble with two additional households.

“I’m staying positive that this time too shall pass. Lots of love.”

Fans took to the comments section of Gemma’s post to share their thoughts.

One person wrote: “Same here. We didn’t make it to Birmingham to see the other half’s family. Finishing off the booze, chocs and Pringles then back on it tomorrow.”

Another added: “Love your positive mindset. Pleased you had a heathy and happy Christmas with your gorgeous little family x.”

A third fan commented: “Sorry you didn’t make it to Spain, but Feliz Navidad from us expats who so wanted Gorks to win xxxx.”

Gemma previously shared an adorable photo of Gorka hugging their daughter Mia when he returned home after nearly 80 days away from his family for Strictly.

“HOME. After 78 days he’s home,” she captioned the heartwarming moment.

Gorka was pictured shutting his eyes and kissing Mia’s cheek, as the little one wrapped her tiny arms around him in what appeared to be their hallway.
