Exclusive! Ali Abbas Zafar’s wife Alicia danced with Disha Patani in ‘Bharat’; filmmaker opens up on his secret wedding – Eagles Vine

Ali Abbas Zafar surprised everyone when he took to Instagram to announce his wedding to French model Alicia. ETimes reached out to the filmmaker to speak about the secret ceremony and upcoming projects. Here’s what he had to say…

Your wedding was a ‘Chhupa Rustam’ one…

(Laughs) Mom and Dad had tested COVID positive, so I had to bring the marriage date ahead. They are growing old and wanted me to get married. Otherwise the wedding was planned for 2022.

You fell in love with Alicia on the sets of ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ (2017)?

I got to know her during ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’. After that, I kept pursuing her to marry me; she said ‘yes’ only last year.

Why did you have to pursue?

Alicia is an Iranian based in France. In fact, she’s born and brought up there. The shift was understandably not an easy decision for her at all. But I kept pursuing because I felt that she was the only one I wanted to start a family with.

And then?

I introduced her to my mother on Christmas, 2020 and the marriage took place on January 3, 2021, at my Dehradun house. It was a very private affair. My brother who stays in London could not attend due to the pandemic but we ensured that he got to witness it online.

Wasn’t Alicia a part of ‘Bharat’ where she featured in a song with Disha Patani?

That’s right.

Does she want to pursue acting?

No, that was just for fun. She’s a French model and quite technically sound. She is fully equipped to take up direction.

You said you want to start a family. Will that be soon?

Yes, but let’s see… COVID is still not over. Also, I want to throw a nice reception party for the industry. I hope it happens sometime in October before I kick-off ‘Mr India’.

Tell us about ‘Mr India’…

It will be a collaboration between Boney Kapoor and Zee. We shall be shooting in India and abroad as well. A large part of it will be on the sets as it will be very heavy on special effects. But, it has got nothing to do with Anil Kapoor’s ‘Mr India’; it’s a new sci-fi film, with a big budget and high production values. We want to create characters like the ‘Avengers’. This ‘Mr India’ will be of international standards.

Is Boney’s son Arjun Kapoor going to be a part of the film?

The cast has not been decided.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Boney and you cast Janhvi Kapoor in Sridevi’s role…

Early days still, but Boney Kapoor will be really happy if that happens.

Are you disappointed that you are not directing ‘Tiger 3’?

No, ‘Tiger 3’ producer Aditya Chopra is like a brother to me and Yash Raj Films is family. I was involved with too many commitments; I am yet to approach the Katrina Kaif superhero film. The invasion of COVID has slowed down most things, and even now, the pace is not what it used to be like before.
