Dan Walker’s emotional Football Focus goodbye leaves new host Alex Scott in tears

Alex Scott, 36, will soon be taking up the mantle as the host of Football Focus from Dan Walker on Saturday mornings. The BBC Breakfast star left the show with his final episode today featuring a tearful goodbye after 12 years.

Posting about the moment, Alex revealed she’d also been left emotional.

At the end of today’s show, Dan was given a warm goodbye from his colleagues and well-known names in football.

The broadcaster was left overwhelmed by the support as he explained how he hadn’t expected it.

He then said in a speech: “This show has been so important to me. I’ve worked on Focus actually nearly half my life.

Alex was announced as his replacement earlier in May, which will make her the first permanent female host in the show’s 47-year history.

Speaking about the opportunity, she said: “When I was a kid, I would never have watched television and thought someone like me could be presenting a programme like Football Focus.

“For the BBC to trust me with this role and allow me to be my true, authentic self means a lot.

“To say I’m the Football Focus presenter feels surreal.

“I’ve had some amazing messages and an incredible reaction on social media – I want to thank everyone for their support.”
