Author Jesmyn Ward Becomes Youngest to Win Library of Congress Fiction Prize

The 2022 Library of Congress Prize for American Fiction has gone to Jesmyn Ward, who at 45, is the youngest individual to obtain the library’s fiction award and is being honored for her lifetime of labor analyzing racism and social injustice.

Ward’s “Salvage the Bones” earned the 2011 Nationwide E book Award and her “Sing, Unburied, Sing” was winner of the 2017 Nationwide E book Award. Her nonfiction work contains the memoir “Males We Reaped,” a finalist for the Nationwide E book Critics Circle Award, and the 2020 work “Navigate Your Stars.”

She can also be the editor of the anthology “The Fireplace This Time: A New Era Speaks About Race.” Ward, who’s a professor of artistic writing at Tulane College, was the recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship in 2017.

The digital prize ceremony will happen on the 2022 Nationwide E book Competition on Sept. 3 in Washington, D.C.
