Speaking to the Radio Times, she said: “They don’t know anything about how to look after themselves, or a work ethic, all of that has gone out of the window. It’s our fault as parents.
“If you put your child on a pedestal, with no sense of independence, and think you have got to entertain them the whole time, what can you expect?”
Having so many children also meant Amanda was breastfeeding for almost 15 years in total.
She explained how this was a no-brainer for her though in an interview with Country & Townhouse.
Amanda said: “Why wouldn’t I [breastfeed]?”
“It’s easy, the right temperature, and when you’re out lambing, what are you going to do?
“I’m no earth mother and I don’t evangelise about any way of life. You do what you got to do.”
The Yorkshire Shepherdess’ unconventional methods also meant she decided to give birth to her eighth child at home.
She recalled during an appearance on This Morning how she had her dog for company and decided not to wake her husband up.
Amanda explained: “The thought of just staying at home was a really good option.
“I got fed up of ruining people’s picnics, so I put the kettle on, stoked up the fire and just had her by the fire with my terrier as a birthing partner.
“I woke up my husband, but the matter of fact is, quite simply, he’s seen me give birth to seven children before.”
Amanda’s husband Clive also has two children from a previous marriage.
Our Yorkshire Farm airs on Tuesday evenings on Channel 5.
